Orange evil stuff
So I failed my one hour glucose and today went to take the three hour glucose test. For those of you not familiar. Glucose testing is routine during pregnancy to check for gestational diabetes. They make you drink this horrible orange drink that taste like you took a cup full of sugar and swallowed it...and they make you drink it all in 5 minutes.
I arrived at 7:45 this am, and had been fasting since 8 pm the night before. I had a blood draw then drank my orange evil stuff. Sitting in the little room I knew I was feeling very nauseous. (You see I am NOT a sweets person...ick) one hour later another blood draw...then 5 minutes before my next blood draw. I threw up all over. Down my shirt, on my UGGS, and all over the floor projectile style. I didn't even really know it was coming. I continued down that path for about 5 minutes before my stomach had decided it was sane again. I only had one hour left! ARE YOU KIDDING ME! I got the nurse and I asked if I would be charged because new year means I have to meet a whole new deductible. Ugh it was a yes. There was NO way I was going to go through this again knowing my body could not handle all that sugar.
Long story short, my test was obvisouly cancelled half way through and I went over for my next appointment, which was a BPP and NST. Since I will be having these tests weekly let me explain
BPP:
A biophysical profile (BPP) test measures the health of your baby during pregnancy. The BPP measures your baby's heart rate, muscle tone, movement, breathing, and the amount of amniotic fluid around your baby.
A BPP is commonly done in the last trimester of pregnancy. If there is a chance that your baby may have problems during your pregnancy (high-risk pregnancy), a BPP may be done by 32 to 34 weeks or earlier. Some women with high-risk pregnancies may have a BPP test every week or twice a week in the third trimester.

Why It Is Done
A biophysical profile (BPP) test is done to:- Learn about and keep track of your baby's health. Special ultrasound methods are used to keep track of movement, increases in heart rate with movement (nonstress test), muscle tone, breathing rate, and the amount of amniotic fluid (amniotic fluid index) surrounding your baby. If these five areas are within a normal range, your baby is considered to be in good health.
- Check on your baby's health if you have:
- Hyperthyroidism.
- Bleeding problems.
- Lupus.
- Chronic kidney disease.
- Type 1 diabetes or gestational diabetes.
- High blood pressure (hypertension).
- Preeclampsia.
- A small amount of amniotic fluid (oligohydramnios) or too much amniotic fluid (polyhydramnios).
- A multiple pregnancy (such as twins or triplets).
- A pregnancy that has gone past your due date, between 40 and 42 weeks.
NST: The test involves attaching one belt to the mother’s abdomen to measure fetal heart rate and another belt to measure contractions. Movement, heart rate and “reactivity” of heart rate to movement is measured for 20-30 minutes. If the baby does not move, it does not necessarily indicate that there is a problem; the baby could just be asleep. A nurse may use a small “buzzer” to wake the baby for the remainder of the test.
Ok so I had both those tests done today and Carter passed with "flying colors" (those were the tech's exact words)
My blood pressure was great and trace protein in my urine which is normal. I am doing another 24 hour urine just to make sure levels are still good.
I did speak with my OB about not wanting to do another 3 hour Glucose test because of how sick I got. He said there are other options and by the end of the week he will call me with those options. So still I await...results from Gestational Diabetes and my 48 hour heart monitor...I want these new few weeks to pass fast so I have some answers!

Huge difference!
